He performs with the highly regarded Chicago-based pianist Kuang-Hao Huang. This is the fifth release in the acclaimed series of the complete symphonies by W. On this volume you can enjoy the symphonies nos. The CD booklets in this series offer the conductor's commentaries to each symphony as well as reflective essays on W. Mozart and the Classic period. This recording captures the magic of the Stokowski sound, his meticulous attention to detail, and his skill as an arranger.
When the possibility of the recording came, I just tried to find out my favourite pieces from the French and Italian Repertoire, and it came out on this really great combination. We record three Italian sonatas and three French pieces, trying to show the similarities and differences between both styles. In that time, musicians were already travelling around Europe searching for new style influences to enrich themselves and their art.
All of the six pieces are perfect examples of the French and Italian style, with their particularities but also their common points. The music of Alexander Zemlinsky and Viktor Ullmann remained buried for decades in the wake of the destruction wrought by the policies of the Nazi regime. Dozens of composers and thousands of compositions are still largely unknown to musicians and lovers of classical music and opera. Their works, in their very different ways, are powerful, vibrant, life-affirming and tragic in turn.
They pulsate with the complexity of the human condition. Their lives and personal histories were tragic, but their music transcends it all. It is for us to appreciate their story in its full historic and artistic context.
The production, directed by Darko Tresnjak, is perfectly charming. Renowned actor and director Tobias Moretti relates the story as a light-footed, magical fairy tale infused with slapstick, witty details and fantasy costumes. A classical music must have for broad audiences! A joyful celebration welcoming the New Year with one of the best orchestras in the world.
Carmina Burana is intensely dramatic and one of the twentieth century's most widely performed works for chorus and orchestra. Simon Rattle is a musical force of nature and the interaction between his unique, varied musical gifts and the great performing traditions of the Berlin Philharmonic is one of the most exciting features of our present cultural life.
Soprano Sally Matthews, tenor Lawrence Brownlee and baritone Christian Gerhaher made this evening to an extraordinary event. Christian Gerhaher is one of the most important baritones of our times.
These magnificent interpretations of three Mendelssohn works - two orchestral and one chamber - are given by the phenomenally talented young Chinese pianist Yuja Wang and other young performers.
The Verbier Festival Orchestra consists of musicians hand-picked from every part of the world. Here they are directed by the doyen of German Mendelssohn conductors, Kurt Masur. Its story centers on the fate of a poor woodsman, Topi, and his wife, Riika, and deals with the Finnish quest for social justice at the first free elections in Aulis Sallinen started a new wave of Finnish opera in the s, and his The Red Line played a fundamental part in establishing Finnish contemporary music on the international scene.

This motivates me a lot, the class will be small, only 5 students, so I will be able to work very well with each student. As for the orchestra, I would like, after 10 years in Munich, to have a new project.
The section of Los Angeles Philharmonic winds and its conductor Gustavo Dudamel are delighted to have me with them and the orchestra is open to ideas that in Munich, for traditional reasons, are not carried out. For example, a more dynamic program for the season, innovative educational projects, work with ballet, audio-visual projects, etc.
I think it can be very interesting! And LA is a fascinating city where you can live very well! Of course, in the classical world, we have much to do, and it would be very foolish to try to compare ourselves to other countries such as Germany or France.
My case seems very utopian, because the talent of our musicians is enviable! Germans would like it! But, sadly, our tradition and now our politics, have not been able to value classical music as much as other countries do it.
And our classical tradition of good composers is as old as in France, England, Germany or Italy. But of all of these countries, we have been the ones that have less value and less development on this. For me it is very sad that for many good musicians staying in Spain can not be an option.
You have to get your skates on, the sooner the better! There are many people now playing very well, it is very easy to travel and, because of the internet, everything is known and everything is accessible to anyone. For this reason, winning an orchestra place has become very difficult! I have a lot for next year! Apart from my job in the orchestra, I will be giving masterclasses at the Liceo Conservatory in Barcelona and at the Novara Conservatory in Italy.
